Here are a few few differences between the two major Masterfiles you may receive upon completion of your design.

An #Adobe ILLUSTRATOR FILE (.Ai file) is superior for most tasks that will need to be resized multiple time to fit on marketing materials, A Good examples of this is a Logo design, or large Vinyl prints. Having everything vectorized in Illustrator ensure it can blown up to 10 ft or be shrunk down to 10cm without losing image quality.

BUT, Nothing beats the Graphically enhanced Ascetics produced by Adobe #PHOTOSHOP (.PSD file), Editing pictures and hi impact flyers are best created using specialized filters or FX lighting, and Overlays, aswell as adding in realistic shading and light reflections, Photoshop has the ability to turn BORING images into AWESOME works of art That in some cases require a second look to see if they aren't a real-life photograph. They look great on Posters, Flyers, and Uber-realistic game/concept art.

THE CONS: There is no denying the MANY great uses for these advanced software and their highly complex algorithms, BUT EVERYTHING in this world has a flaw or draw back.

ILLUSTRATOR: Gives your images a somewhat flat cartoon-ish look. In recent years Illustrator has began tightening the noose on this problem but it still falls miles short of the life like FX you get from Photoshop which CAN turn a cartoon looking image into something life like.

PHOTOSHOP: Is great for all those enhancements but its hard to Enlarge or shrink the image without losing PIXELS and thus Resolution or Quality of the image.
** So be sure to let the designer know that you want an image created with specific measurements in mind so that the end result comes out as clear as possible when printed.

PERSONALLY: I am forever switching back and forth from the two Adobe Products. I will create a design in Illustrator until near finish (so that I have a vectorized version for future use), and then import it as a "SMART OBJECT" into Photoshop to add the artistic textures and shading that make it come to life.

This does take alot longer but when you want Paying Work and steady clientele that spread the word of your Quality Work to friends and help diminish the impact of sub-par designs an industry flooded with designers and sites offering $5 logos, You have to go that extra mile to let the customer know they paid more and got ALOT more.
